My research looks at the public discourse and news coverage surrounding gentrification, neighborhood change, and spatial inequality. In particular, my dissertation examines accelerating development and neighborhood change along the Route 1 corridor in Prince George’s County, just outside D.C. My primary interest is how people talk about neighborhood changes; what narratives become dominant; how journalistic coverage of these places adheres to or refutes these narratives; and what this says about how journalism works and whose voices are included. How do different actors construct place identity, and what are the implications?
