A Community Land Trust movement is building in Baltimore. Through organizing networks and the local environmental justice movement, people are developing frameworks to support new and nascent trusts that offer a range of community solutions.

We’ll hear from Baltimore’s CLT leaders about the benefits of shared equity, the process of starting and maintaining a CLT, and the value of the community assets that can be built with the CLT structure. We’ll also discuss how organizers, nonprofit developers, and community members are utilizing CLTs so that low- and moderate-income people can build equity through homeownership, protect their right to remain in their neighborhoods, and build shared amenities.

Destiny Watford, 2016 Goldman Prize Recipient, will discuss the history of Baltimore’s CLT movement and the United Worker’s efforts to establish an affordable housing trust fund with the City. Lisa Hodges of the Westport Economic Development Corporation and Nichole Battle of GEDCO will discuss democratic design and Adriana Foster of the Charm City Land Trust will share the neighborhood view.
